Permit Depot is committed to revolutionizing the housing industry by making the building process more accessible, efficient, and transparent for all Californians. Our mission is to streamline construction, reduce costs, and eliminate barriers that prevent individuals and businesses from building new homes. By working closely with counties across the state, we aim to provide pre-approved building plans that expedite the process, offering a solution to the housing crisis and creating opportunities for affordable homeownership for future generations. 

Founded in 2024, Permit Depot’s vision originated in 2019 when our founder, Joshua Mata, was studying Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley. During this time, Joshua faced the high cost of living in the Bay Area, living in a van to afford his education. His experience led him to question why housing was so unaffordable, particularly for students from low socioeconomic backgrounds who often found themselves homeless or living in outdated, unsafe "affordable housing" units built in the 1950s. This pivotal moment inspired Joshua to address a critical issue: why isn’t building new, safe, and affordable homes easier?

Permit Depot was created to answer this question by simplifying the building process, cutting through red tape, and making home construction a feasible option for everyone. Today, we are working with multiple counties across California, including Mono County, where pre-approved building plans are already being implemented. Our end goal is to make homeownership attainable, challenging the notion that the current generation cannot afford to own homes.
